Year 2

In Year 2, our learning is shaped by the core values of Belonging, Ambition, Kindness, and Joy, which are embedded throughout our engaging and challenging curriculum. We strive to nurture confidence, independence, and resilience, helping every child feel included, reach for their goals, show compassion, and discover joy in learning as they grow into motivated and capable learners.

Throughout the year we will be bringing our learning to life, by going on a variety of school trips, including a trip to Carlisle Airport, the beach at Allonby and Carlisle Castle.

Welcome to Year 2

In Year 2 we have two classes, 2A and 2SW:

2A: Teacher - Mrs Adams

2SW: Teachers - Mrs Walkingshaw (Mon and Tues) Mrs Stevenson (Wed, Thurs and Fri) 

Children will also be taught by Mrs Stewart and Mrs Watson throughout the week.

In Year 2, the children continue to learn in a variety of fun and engaging ways. We cover many exciting topics throughout the year. For example: 'Explore and Draw' in Art, 'Making a moving Monster' in DT, 'How did we learn to fly?' as a topic in History and find out 'What it is like to live by the coast?' in Geography.

The children do P.E. twice a week, following the Rising Stars Champions Sport, Health and Fitness scheme of work. Over the year, we have professional coaches who also teach the children gymnastics and ball skills.

Throughout the school, we follow the Little Wandle phonics and reading scheme. After completing phonics, the children will progress onto a spelling scheme.
