Science
Our Vision
At Stanwix School, our vision is to spark curiosity and inspire pupils to confidently explore, question, and understand the world around them. Through a practical, engaging, and enjoyable Science curriculum, we nurture excitement for discovery. We also encourage children to investigate how things work while challenging stereotypes about who can succeed in science and beyond. We believe these opportunities will foster resilience, creativity, and a lasting love of learning. By building this strong foundation, our children will grow into confident, lifelong learners who are equipped to explore, value, and contribute to the world around them.
Science Overview
Our bespoke Science curriculum is built squarely on the statutory Science Programmes of Study for Key Stages 1 and 2, but has been carefully sequenced into knowledge-rich units to ensure that learning builds cumulatively each year. Working Scientifically is fully integrated into each science unit (for example, children plan investigations, interpret data, make predictions and evaluate methods within their topics of plants, materials, forces etc). We have chosen this approach so that children can revisit and deepen key ideas over time, making their science both meaningful and enjoyable.
To suit our school, we have made some small, yet important, adaptations. For example, we have lengthened some topics from one half term to a full term where we know children need more time for practical investigations. Making these adaptations means we cover everything the National Curriculum requires, while making science engaging, inclusive and tailored to our pupils.
