Stanwix School
Value the individual, inspire, enjoy and excel
Our Vision
At Stanwix School we use the Kapow scheme to support our delivery of teaching PSHE. Our PSHE lessons incorporate the statutory DfE Relationships and Health Education (RSE) objectives for primary schools. We deliver these through the Kapow PSHE scheme which provides a structured approach to both RSE and wider PSHE learning. As part of our Personal Development curriculum, PSHE equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and personal qualities required to thrive as individuals, within families and as responsible members of society. It promotes healthy, safe, responsible and balanced lifestyles, fostering resilience and enterprise. Furthermore, PSHE supports pupils in navigating key transitions, making informed learning and career decisions and preparing for future economic wellbeing. The Kapow scheme incorporates our school vision throughout enabling children to learn, grow and thrive.
At Stanwix School, PSHE is a vital part of our curriculum, helping children develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to lead confident, healthy and responsible lives. We follow the Kapow Primary scheme of work, which provides a comprehensive and progressive approach to PSHE education from Early Years through to Year 6.
Intent
We aim to nurture pupils who:
Promoting British Values
Our PSHE curriculum actively promotes the fundamental British Values of:
These values are embedded throughout Kapow’s scheme, helping children understand their role in society and encouraging respectful, inclusive attitudes. Pupils learn to celebrate diversity, challenge discrimination and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
Our Curriculum
Kapow’s PSHE curriculum is structured around five key themes:
These themes are revisited each year, allowing children to deepen their understanding as they grow. Lessons are interactive, age-appropriate and inclusive, ensuring that all pupils feel seen, heard and valued.
Safeguarding and Statutory Coverage
Our PSHE provision fully meets the statutory requirements for Relationships Education, Health Education and the broader aims of the National Curriculum. It also supports our safeguarding culture by equipping children with the language and confidence to speak up about concerns and make safe choices.
Impact
Through PSHE, our pupils become thoughtful, resilient and socially aware individuals. They leave us with a strong sense of self, an understanding of the world around them and the tools to thrive in their next stage of education and beyond.
