GEOGRAPHY
Our Geography Vision
At Stanwix School, our vision for Geography is to inspire a lifelong curiosity about the world through a dynamic and inclusive geography curriculum. We aim to nurture global citizens who understand their place in the world, appreciate diverse environments and cultures, and recognise the importance of sustainability. Through engaging, hands-on learning, pupils will explore local and global geography, develop key skills in observation, enquiry, and critical thinking, and gain a deep respect for the planet. By connecting classroom learning to real-world issues, we empower children to make informed decisions and contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
Geography Overview
At Stanwix School, our geography curriculum has been carefully selected to provide a clear, progressive journey from EYFS to Year 6, ensuring full alignment with the National Curriculum. We use the Kapow Primary Geography scheme as a foundation because it offers structured progression in key geographical knowledge, skills, and vocabulary. However, we have thoughtfully adapted and enriched this scheme to reflect our local context and community. These adaptations allow us to make learning meaningful and relevant, helping children connect with their immediate environment while developing a broader understanding of the wider world, sustainability, and global citizenship.
We have chosen to organise and personalise our geography curriculum by combining the structured progression of the Kapow Primary Geography scheme with meaningful links to our local environment and community. This approach allows us to meet national requirements while making learning more engaging and relevant for our pupils.

This personalised approach not only strengthens geographical understanding but also fosters a deeper connection to place, encouraging pupils to become active, informed citizens.
