Art
Our Vision
At Stanwix, we believe all children have the right to an excellent and exciting art education.
We encourage our children to be adventurous in exploring, inventing, creating and evaluating. Our children's love of art and design will flourish, inspired by other artists, craft makers and designers.
It's our aim that each child will discover areas of art and design that engage, challenge and excite them. We want to give them the confidence to be creative, take risks and experiment with their own ideas. Our children will have fun developing their own unique style and feel proud of their achievements.
Scheme Overview
Stanwix School uses Access Art's Split Primary Curriculum, which we adapt and tailor to suit our school and our children. It delivers a rich, broad, balanced, diverse and engaging art curriculum.
Art is taught across three half term, alternating with Design and Technology. Skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, collage, digital media and textiles are developed over time.
Lessons are delivered to each year group through three units: Drawing and Sketchbooks, Surface and Colour, and Working in Three Dimensions. Units are delivered as a series of lessons across consecutive weeks. All of our lessons are inspired by a diverse mix of artists and designers to bring authenticity and context to our curriculum.
The roots of our curriculum will always focus on the knowledge and skills within the National Curriculum for Art and Design, along with the NSEADS's additional guidance. We also link to other areas of the curriculum in meaningful, engaging and enriching ways.
