Operation Encompass

Stanwix School is committed to supporting the wellbeing and safety of all pupils and is part of Operation Encompass, a partnership between schools and the police that aims to provide early support for children affected by domestic abuse.

Through Operation Encompass, the police will share information with the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) before the start of the next school day when they have attended an incident of domestic abuse where a child has been present, witnessed the incident, or may have been affected by it. This information is shared confidentially and enables the school to provide timely, appropriate support that reflects the individual needs of the child.

We recognise that experiencing or witnessing domestic abuse can have a significant impact on a child's emotional wellbeing, behaviour, learning and overall development. By receiving information promptly, the school can take steps to ensure children feel safe, supported and understood during the school day.

Operation Encompass helps strengthen the partnership between schools and the police, ensuring that children who have experienced domestic abuse receive the care and support they need at the earliest opportunity, helping to reduce the potential short- and long-term effects of such experiences.
