School House Mural

Artist Iris Priest, assisted by ex Stanwix teacher Mrs. Priest, spent many hours painting a mural in the stairwell of the main schoolhouse. Both painters agreed that the project was a delight to do.

The mural loosely reflects the concept of ‘wraparound’ to mark what was the new venture of wraparound care in school.

It uses trompe l’oeil to let the viewer’s imagination take flight through the east-facing doorway and along the Roman Wall towards the Northumbrian coast.

Iris graduated in fine art from Cumbria Institute of the Arts in 2008. She is based in Newcastle and is involved with a variety of arts-based projects in the North East.
